The useful headline: one randomized, placebo-controlled crossover study found that 1.37 g of active galactooligosaccharides (GOS) daily helped reduce occasional bloating within 7 days in adults reporting digestive symptoms.
The useful details matter just as much. This was an ingredient study, not a clinical trial of the Serene Biotics Gut-Brain Protocol.
How the study was designed
Vulevic and colleagues invited 120 adults into the study and randomized 91. Participants received the GOS intervention and placebo in different periods, with a washout between them. Eight people did not complete the protocol, leaving 83 participants in the per-protocol analysis.
Each active intervention supplied 1.37 g of GOS daily. Participants recorded digestive symptoms throughout the study.
What the researchers found
In the per-protocol analysis, participants reported lower occasional bloating, gas, and abdominal-discomfort scores than placebo by the end of week one. The difference was sustained through week two.
The study did not find meaningful changes in bowel frequency, stool consistency, quality of life, or mood. Those null results help define the finding accurately: the strongest supported takeaway is digestive-comfort support, especially occasional bloating, in the studied population.
What the study does not establish
- It does not predict when every person will notice a change.
- It does not test the finished Serene Biotics formulas.
- It does not show that GOS treats a digestive condition.
- It does not establish that a change in one bacterial group caused the symptom result.
The endpoints were self-reported, the analysis discussed here was per protocol, and the study involved Clasado personnel and funding. These factors belong beside the result, not buried beneath it.
How the dose relates to Serene Biotics
Every Daily Calm Focus and Nightly Rest & Restore serving supplies the 1.37 g active-GOS dose directly studied in Vulevic 2018. Bimuno® GOS and L. plantarum DR7 are independently studied components used together as a complementary synbiotic. The finished combination has not been clinically tested.
Some people experience temporary gas when increasing fermentable fiber; responses vary. Start with the labeled directions and speak with a healthcare professional if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or nursing, or have questions about suitability.
